21 Million Electric Cars Produced in China

2 September 2009 No Comment

As of August 28 the China Central Television aka CCTV broadcasts a daily TV program devoted to electric cars. It will be aired every weekday at 18:20 with a replay on Saturday night.

According to the official version of the program authors, China has produced 21 million electric vehicles in 2008. I knew the figure would be in millions but I am very surprised too. Is it a bit inflated or maybe it includes two-wheeled electric vehicles? Although I have no way of verifying this number, it is clear that China is far ahead in electric car development. While we are just testing and pushing pens, they are producing the cars and making money. Alas!

The new TV program will be on the CCTV-7 - a channel focused on agriculture and military. It is very popular amongst Chinese peasants and workmen. It will feature a whole range of useful information and advice: electric car purchase, insurance, maintenance and industry news.

Now, Mr Clarkson, how is that, eh? When are we going to have an alternative transportation oriented series on the national TV?

I wish to thank my friend Liang for the tip.
