Best Buy Sets a New Electric Car Milestone in Britain

Will people be queueing?
There was WalMart… then they came to England and created ASDA. Like it or not but it is there, wherever you go. Another American retail giant is coming to Britain and bringing good news for electric car fans.
Best Buy electronics store will be the first retail outlet to offer electric cars to public. Now you’re probably thinking: how come we never thought about it? Yep! That was my first reaction too.
Best Buy are known in the US for their friendly “try before you buy” approach. It promises to continue the tradition on British ground.
Initially they will stock the Tesla Roadster and the home-brew ECC ev’ie and you’ll be able to test-drive one to decide if electric car is what you wan. I don’t expect them selling lots of cars before January 2011 when the Government subsidy goes live but the test cars will definitely clock some test miles! I expect an active response from the public.
The BB will have an eco-solution oriented section in their stores. Along with the electric cars there will be eco home solutions and electric bicycles and motorcycles. An e-bike will start from £399.99; an electric scooter from £1499.99.
According to Best Buy’s official press release, they will open the first store in Thurrock, Essex on 30 April 2010. Stores in Merry Hill West Midlands and Southampton will follow in June. Yes! Southampton is close to me! The last leg of expansion will include Liverpool and Croydon.
