Electric 24 Hours of Le Mans

Green GT for Le Mans
Shocking news have broken out of the headquarters of GreenGT – a Swiss company of car engineering and high-tec developments. It is expected that we will have an all-electric car on the line-up of 2011 Le Mans race.
Unlike other so called “green” cars, this will be really green. Don’t expect to see the new car connected to the grid. It will feed its batteries from a large solar panel making it a 100% green.
The concept of Twenty-4 is going to have a dual electric motor outputting an equivalent of up to 400 bhp. It will reach 62 mph in 4 seconds and a maximum speed of 171 mph (275 kph). Twenty-4 was developed by several French students and although it is almost completed, the road tests are still to be carried out. It is quite possible to fine-tune the super-fast electric car till the race of 2011 but the question of who would drive the car still remains unclear.
It wouldn’t make much sense giving the car to somebody who can barely drive. From the other point, which professional driver would risk his reputation to take an experimental electric car around the Le Mans track? Anything springs to your mind? How about Jacques Villeneuve – he’s always loved experimenting with new things and the guy is still pretty good.
As such, it is nothing unusual, after all the racing grounds are the best place to test new technology. We just have to re-order the way we’ve been perceiving the electric car. It is not a small fragile single-seater any more. It turns out that the electric car of the future is large, fast and powerful.
