Electric Cars Afraid of Snow? Think Again

More and more countries and regions are joining the electric car movement. With California at the forefront, London as the self-proclaimed capital of green motoring and Scotland boasting with huge amounts of excess energy, who will follow, you might ask. Umh, Alaska will. Was it laughter I heard?

A company called Alaska Electric Light and Power is the mastermind behind the local electric car expansion plan. With almost 100% of Alaskan electricity coming from water turbines and quite a good chunk of excess electricity produced every year, why not?

Tim McLeod, chief exec of AEL&P is geared up to acquire a small fleet of electric vehicles to test them in real-life situations around Juneau, the capital of Alaska.

As far as the winter is concerned, Mr McLeod doesn’t worry too much about that. Local residents of Juneau are seldom doing more than 30 miles per run – each modern electric car should provide that sort of range even with a cold battery.

I’m wondering what Sarah Palin thinks about all this. Do you think she would approve?
