Electric Cars in Denmark Survive Winter

12 April 2010 No Comment

It’s been apparently the worst winter in almost 2 decades in Denmark. “Better Place” – a company that had installed 60 charging points in and around Copenhagen – was worried how would the equipment cope with the harsh climate. They all emerged from the deep winter undamaged. Actually, their customer support centre has had a boring spell of time with no support calls at all.

Many are sceptical about using electric cars in Northern countries. It is true that the efficiency of an electric car falls during the winter months but as it is evident from the “Better Place” experiment, both cars and charging points can survive terrible sub-zero temperatures. Encouraged by the experience in Denmark’s capital, “Better Place” has signed further agreements with 10 peripheral municipalities.

Selected electric car owners participating in the Copenhagen re-charge experiment will continue receiving free electricity until mid 2010 when the charging points will be fully monetized.
