Fisker Karma

The master of outsourcing – Fisker Automotive – have signed up the Californian company Quantum Technologies to supply drivetrain and control system components for their forthcoming luxury plug-in hybrid sedan Fisker Karma.

There are very few in-house developed components on the Karma. Almost everything, down to very door handles, is outsourced from other companies. This approach has allowed Fisker to develop their luxury sedan in a relatively short time with a fraction of the normal development costs.

Looks like they are on target to start selling the $88,000 Karma in 2011. A democratic model costing $40,000 is in the pipeline as well.
