Germany Serious about their Electric Cars
According to the German transportation authority, there are only 1452 electric cars registered in the country. That is 0.003pc of the total fleet - compare it with 0.01pc in the UK.
That is why Germany feels it may be left behind. The government will allocate half a billion Euros to help local companies develop the future transportation concept. This money will be allocated among tasks like development, battery improvement and testing.
Tell you what, if they concentrated more on marketing, they would have better successful. I mean, we don’t really need this testing. We all know that electric car is crap, however, many, many people across Europe are ready to jump on the electric hype and drive the EV. Testing will not solve the main problem - the cars are too expensive and the range is too short to drive it outside a city.
But that is the government way of thinking… here you are… German transport minister is quite aware of the progress made in Asian countries. Herr Wolfgang Tiefensee noted that Japan hasn’t yet achieved a real breakthrough, obviously meaning that Germany fancies to overtake the mastermind of Asian technology.
Meanwhile we (here in the UK), mostly thanks to our mayors of London, have achieved good results in real-life testing of electric cars. So you see, the electric car race is on. It is actually a good sign. A healthy competition stimulates the development. Best of luck to our German colleagues!
