Electric Car Rentals for London
November 2009 marks another milestone in history of electrification of London. A new company GoGo Electric Car Rentals is launching to offer Londoners 100% electric cars for short term rental. Electric cars are exempt from the Congestion Charge, qualifying for free parking and free to re-charge (at specifically designed outlets). This fleet of environmentally conscious cars is destined to become the welcome choice of the future motoring.
Prices start from as little as £22 per day for a four-seater GoGo electric car. Rental term – between one and 28 days. Not bad at all, it is actually much the same cost as for its gas-guzzling competitors. The GoGo’s fleet uses the Mega City, built in France by the world renowned maker of supercars and light city cars. Mega City offers approximately 50 mile range between re-charges and a top speed of 40mph, which is more than enough for London. All GoGo Electric Car Rentals vehicles will take approximately 6 hours to fully charge using a domestic plug, costing the driver somewhere in the region of just 1.5p per mile. And let’s not forget the ultimate attraction: being able to re-charge and park free of charge across numerous London locations.
Considering the current feeling about electric cars and involvement of the Mayor of London in all things green, electric car rental is a new and exciting niche – another step towards making the public aware of electric cars and convert them into keen buyers whenever the alternative motoring hits the mainstream. Boris Johnson is considering the introduction of an electric car hire scheme in London as part of his attempts to make it the “electric capital of Europe”. Private efforts like GoGo’s will make this aim easier to achieve.
