How Would You Like to Use Your Electric Car, Sir?

Nissan Leaf
A question like this and many other vital questions will be on eTec’s agenda as they’re preparing to roll out the biggest electric car infrastructure field-test in history. They’ve received $100 million from the US Department of Energy and doubled the total with a private investor input. The study will be launched in California, Washington, Arizona, Oregon and Tennesee. In total 11,000 charging points will be installed and 4700 Nissan Leafs leased out to people who have expressed their readiness of becoming test rabbits.
eTec takes on a huge risk because no-one can predict, how will people in general get on with their electric cars. What eTec wants to know is how are people interacting with the charging infrastructure and their new electric cars; how are they forming the new habits.
The previous field tests – GM EV1, Toyota Rav Electro and the little known Mendrisio experiment has shown that people are fairly happy with using electric cars… if you only give them a chance. Most of the previous experiments have ended up with the cars being withdrawn. This time around it promises to be different.
