The Trev Being Crated for the Trip to Europe

Geneva, Switzerland is the starting point of the first Zero Race. It will commence on August 16th, 2010 and last for 80 days. The 18,600-mile race is set to cross 16 countries. Its main goal is to stir up enthusiasm and create awareness. Events like this is just what we need. They work much better than any TV-ads or other tools of mass control :)

Owing to the very strict eligibility criteria, you won’t see any mainstream electric car maker on the grid. You will barely see anyone on the grid – only four teams taking part – but, hey, it’s the first endurance race for electric cars of its kind. There will be more teams on the grid for the 2011 race.

The cars are expected to be able to produce a consistent 155-mile range, to reach at least 50mph and to cover around 300 miles daily. And yeah, the car should seat at least two. No wonder there are only 4 teams. Can you name many cars that fulfil these criteria? I can name a few that cannot!

Taking part are Zerotracer (Switzerland), Vectrix (Germany, an it is a scooter… emh?), Team Trev (Australia) and Power Plaza (South Korea). All sights are set on the Australian team – not only the Trev is a head-turner, it has received sooo much publicity since it was first announced in 2008…

I’ll be telling you more about all four competitors, their electric vehicles as well as giving you the latest race gossip, so please keep coming back for more!
