Milton Keynes gets Electrified

28 April 2010 No Comment

Milton Keynes Council has announced that they’ve reached an agreement with the Renault-Nissan alliance. The town will apparently be one of the first places in Britain to receive electric cars made by Renault and Nissan when they become available. That’s how they’ve jumped the queue.

The Council from their side committed to build an advanced charging point grid in Milton Keynes. Helped by the Government’s “Plugged-in Places” scheme, they will install 430 public juice points as well as update some residential outlets to make fast-charging possible. It is currently unclear how will be the households chosen because only limited upgrade packs will be available. Are they going to hold a lottery?

Milton Keynes is the first place in Britain to action the “Plugged-in Places” scheme. Everyone else is currently contemplating or just talking about it.
