Volvo Developing a Contactless Charging System

In 2009 I reported on Nissan developing an inductive charging system for electric cars. The principle of operation is electromagnetic induction between two coils. The flow of electric current into the transmitting coil that is embedded into asphalt creates magnetic field that induces current in the receiver that is located under the car. As an idea, it is great – we’d have weather-proof and hooligan-proof charging stations that are very simple to operate.
A couple of days ago Volvo announced that they’re working on a similar system together with Belgian development …

At the 32nd International Vienna Motor Symposium, VW has revealed their plans regarding green motoring developments. To be perfectly honest, Volkswagen have been rather inactive in this field. However, there’s been something in the pipeline for a while and it is promised that the result will be stunning. One has a long way to wait for VW to come up with a plug-in hybrid car technology. It is expected that a new model range will go into production for the season of 2013/14.
