UK’s target to become the world’s leading country of green vehicle development has just been given a much-needed boost. Smith Electric Vehicles – the maker of world-renowned Newton electric truck – has partnered with Gateshead College to launch an apprenticeship dedicated to electric car production.

16 students will be offered an intensive 4-year apprenticeship program specialising in electric vehicles. After the completion of the course, the students will be offered a chance to continue for a degree. Alternatively, they will be headhunted by the manufacturers.

This apprenticeship program comes in the right time. The increasing demand for electric vehicles means there will be a need for relevant specialists. We can only wish it was more than just 16 places.
