My regular readers will have noticed that I’ve been singing praises to the KAIST institute of South Korea. They’ve got several interesting projects pertaining to the alternative transportation field. This time it is the Korean government that has excelled.

During the official launch of the Hyundai BlueOn electric car, the government has made a promise to assist the company in making their first million of electric cars. It is a very kind gesture as Hyundai has already invested around £16 million into their i10-based electric car model.

It is expected that before 2013 the car will continue leaking more and more money, so, the government’s subsidy will come in quite handy. Apart from the “Virtual Engine Sound System” that makes the car sound just like a petrol car, there’s nothing revolutionary in the BlueOn, however, it is an important step for Hyundai and it should start them on their journey of making electric cars.
